Ballaké is one of the best kora players of the new generation. An obvious virtuosity mixed with a clear rhythmic demand from his trio, made up of two young n’goni and balafon improvisers. A master virtue and serenity serving his duos with Toumani Diabaté and the well remembered project with the bluesman Taj Mahal.
This soloist is also a composer and offers us here an album conceived as a trilogy: a first act around the kora alone, including the encounter between his kora and Toumani Diabaté’s one, a second act with his trio innovating on uncommon chords, and a third one inviting Alboulkadri Barry’s and Rokia Traoré’s quiet voices as well as the single-string violin powerful energy of Fanga Diawara, soloist of the Mali National Instrumental Ensemble. Ballaké takes us to a Mali country, enriched through its cultures, version 2005!
